My Community & Neighbourhood

A community is a group of people who live, work, or learn together in the same place. It can be your neighbourhood, your school, or your city. In a community, people help each other, share resources like parks and libraries, and feel like they belong. When neighbours care for each other, the community becomes a safe and friendly place for everyone.

I. Read and practice the conversation with a partner.

Aisha: Hi, Marco! Welcome to the neighbourhood. How do you like living here so far?

Marco: Hi, Aisha! Thank you. I really like it, but I’m still learning where everything is.

Aisha: What are you looking for? I can help you!

Marco: Is there a grocery store near here?

Aisha: Yes, there is a large supermarket two blocks down on Main Street, next to the pharmacy.

Marco: Great! What about a park for my children?

Aisha: There is a nice park behind the community center. It has a playground and a walking path.

Marco: That sounds wonderful. How do I get to the community center from here?

Aisha: Turn right at the traffic light, then go straight for five minutes. It’s across from the library.

Marco: Thank you so much, Aisha! That’s very helpful.

Aisha: You’re welcome! Enjoy your day.
